In our beauty obsessed society there are always going to be people tagged with the ‘great personality’ label. Lexi, the protaganist in The Revenge of the Girl with the Great Personality, is such a person. Add to this mix a cute 7-year old beauty queen contestant as a sister and a pageant obsessed mom and the reader soon understands why Lexis is out for revenge!
Why I picked it up:
I was looking for a light-hearted, non-paranormal read and I found this one recommended at http://www.teenreads.com. Having read the opening sentence, ”Applying butt glue to my sister’s backside …”I realized my search was over.
Why I finished it:
Lexi is a smart, practical, and hardworking teen who has gone unnoticed and unappreciated by her family for too long. About halfway through the book I realized that Lexi was not really looking for revenge. She just wanted to be recognized, both at school and at home, for more than her personality. By the title I knew that she would accomplish this … I just wasn’t sure how she would do it. While she really loves her younger sister and her mother, a showdown with them and the whole beauty pageant scene is inevitable. I was curious enough to want to witness the ‘showdown’.
I’d give it to:
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a light read and is not overly fond of beauty pageants, especially those with young children as contestants! If you do not know who Honey Boo Boo is, this may not be the book for you.
